STEP-HEAR™ has been successfully integrated with a bus GPS system
Public transportation is the most common way of transportation for the blind and visually impaired. However, finding the desired bus, knowing where it’s going and getting on it, is a very difficult task.
STEP-HEAR™, the RF based Navigation & Information system, has been successfully integrated with a bus GPS system and works as follow:
- When the bus gets to about 20 meters from the blind/visually impaired user, the activator (which is held by the user), starts to vibrate and/or beep (depends on the chosen mode).
- A message is being displayed on the bus ticketing board saying: “a person needing assistance is in the station”, so the driver knows to look for this passenger.
- As the bus stops an announcement is coming from the bus external speaker, which is located by the upper part of the bus door, announcing the bus number and route/final destination.
Following fine tuning and adjustments, the system will be available for demonstrations and mass installation.
